Title: Generic Cyclotomic Numbers
Abstract:
In this talk we will take a closer look at the ring theoretic structure of so-called generic cyclotomic numbers which are used to describe generic character tables which contain the information about the character tables of certain families of groups like GL\(_2(\mathbb{F}_q)\) for \(q\) a prime power.
It turns out that the generic cyclotomic numbers can be described as a certain group ring. This enables us to apply a general result about group rings to characterize the units.
