2 The main functionality of CCTab

2 The main functionality of CCTab

This package can be useful for users who want to compute ordinary character tables of given finite groups.

By loading this package the default method for Irr (Reference: Irr) is overwritten for those groups for which the GAP library would use IrrDixonSchneider (Reference: IrrDixonSchneider).

If this is all you want, you do not need to know any further details about the functions in CCTab.

But the functions in CCTab can also be used interactively to construct character tables of groups which are not handled easily by the generic algorithm. In this case you may be interested in more details about how this package works.

There are also some functions, e.g., PositionConjugacyClass (3.1-1), PowerMapsOfAllClasses (3.2-1) or RationalClassesInfo (3.2-4) which may be of independent interest for other applications.
