How to get CHEVIE onto your computer

The MAPLE part

For the MAPLE part of CHEVIE you need either Maple 7 and newer, or Maple V.3. You need different archives for these cases.

Archive for MAPLE 7, 8 or higher:

http://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~CHEVIE/cheviem/ftp/chevie3r2m8.tar.gz

Archive for MAPLE V Release 3:

http://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~CHEVIE/cheviem/ftp/chevie3r2.tar.gz

Archive with extra tables

This page contains a link to an archive with extra tables for GLn(q) and GUn(q), n = 4, 5, 6. These work with both versions of cheviem above.

The installation is described in the README file in the same directory. You need about 6 Megabytes of free disk space for unpacking the files.

Remark for users of former versions of CHEVIE:

The archives with name chevie3r2... are from 1/2005, correcting the tables for PSL2 with odd q (!).

The GAP part

It is now very easy to get the GAP part of CHEVIE - you only need to install GAP, version 3.4.4, released in April 97 (see GAP for details).

This contains the GAP part of CHEVIE as a share package. Therefore you can use it by just typing

RequirePackage("chevie");

during your GAP session.

Remark for users of former versions of CHEVIE:
The GAP part of CHEVIE (Version 3.1) has considerably changed compared to older versions of CHEVIE. We strongly recommend that you install the GAP release mentioned above and therefore use the new CHEVIE package.
