Remarks on these web pages
What is the purpose of these pages?
- to inform about the Nikolaus Conference!
- to learn about correct (X)HTML and CSS style sheet code (for the author and interested page visitors) - these pages are well rendered by all current browsers
- to demonstrate some interesting effects which don't need things like java, javascript, frames, ...
- to demonstrate some effects one should better avoid - visitors with "old" computers or browsers understand what I mean
- to demonstrate another attempt of a GAPWebServer in the Game part (all the pages are served by a web server which is implemented in Python and which has one or several builtin GAP processes (Contact me, if you are interested in this.)
Why are these pages so slow?
First answer: They are not! - Just buy a computer which is 8 times faster than yours.
Second answer: The several layers of backgrounds with transparent parts together with 45 animated gif-files on a single page keep your CPU quite busy. While the demonstrated effects are easy to achieve and can be impressive on some web pages they should not be used for the whole background of a page.
