5. Usage hints

5.1: How can I customize GAP?

Using a .gaprc file for customization may save connection time. GAP looks for the file with the name .gaprc in your home directory (on UNIX systems) when you start it. If such a file is found it is read after libname/init.g, but before any of the files mentioned on the command line are read. You may use it, for example, to read a file containing functions or data that you always need, or to define your personal abbreviations for some names in the library, which seems to be too long for you.
