Abstract

I will give an outline of the Skjelbred-Sund method for classifying nilpotent Lie algebras, and describe how I used it to classify nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension up to 6, over fields of characteristic not 2. The classification leads to a computer program for identifying a given nilpotent Lie algebra with one in the list.
