Abstract

The McKay-conjecture states that the number of p-height zero characters of a finite group should be equal to the same number for the normalizer of a Sylow p-subgroup. This is maybe the simplest in a whole hierarchy of conjectures in representation theory of finite groups. In the talk we will report on recent progress on this conjecture for arbitrary groups and then more particularly for finite groups of Lie type.
